What a week!

I am so glad that Mom is finally feeling better enough to get me out of the house!! What a week we had. Tuesday we had Kindermusik and I managed to stay awake almost the whole time. I met all of the other kids in the class, got to swing in the blanket, see all of the cool instruments and hear the nice singing. Mom and I practice some of the songs at home too and I like them a lot. Wednesday morning we had a midwife appointment. I weighed in at 12.5 lbs! Mom thought 12 lbs and I was even bigger! No wonder her and Dad complain about their backs and arms being sore. Oh well, it is good for them to build up their parent muscles. I am only going to get bigger. Look out Simon! (I know I’ll never catch up but it is fun trying.) Wednesday afternoon we went to the Ontario Early Years centre for a Baby & Me class. We sang songs and met other babies and Moms. The first picture below is a close up of what the chin of a 12.5 lb baby looks like. The other picture is my new friend Jeff showing me some music on his palm pilot.

Baby Massage!

Last night we went to a prenatal class reunion. My parents went to classes before I was born to learn how to take care of me and last night was planned for all of the parents to bring their babies in now that they are born. (Parents like to show their babies off.) I was bigger then some of the 6 week old babies! The instructor taught Mom & Dad how to give me baby massage which I think is great because it sure feels good!

Hands

Some people are calling me little Cameron, some say I look like my Mom’s baby picture so they are trying to figure out who I will look like. It is pretty hard to say at this point. Obviously I have my Dad’s hair colour, probably his eye colour and skin colour but it is too hard to tell for facial features. I do have my Mom’s hands though.

Bath time

I did not enjoy my bath at the hospital or the bath the midwife gave me last week but I liked my bath today! Mom and Dad put a heater on in the bathroom to make sure it was nice and warm. After the bath, they gave me a massage with olive oil and I was so relaxed I pooped in the towel! Oops.

Close ups

Mommy asked me to put up these pictures because they are close ups of my face and she says people like that kind of thing. I am practicing making funny faces like my Daddy. Do you think I am getting close to his faces?!

I had my 2nd outing on Tuesday. Mommy and I went to our first Kindermusik class! All of the other babies are quite a bit older than me but I think I can catch up ok. I slept through most of the class but I could hear the music and feel the movements and massage.
I had my 3rd outing yesterday and we went to visit the midwife. I now weigh 11 lbs 1 oz and I have grown all over. They tested my hearing with these weird things that were stuck into my ear. They said I looked really healthy and was growing perfectly!

Baby sling and big boy clothes

We tried out the baby sling because I guess carrying me around all of the time makes it hard for Mom to get things done! I found it to be pretty comfortable and snuggly. It will take some practice for both of us to feel completely comfortable in it but we will get there!

We also had our first family outing! All of the clothes that cousin Simon lent me for newborns are too small for me so I needed something to wear! We decided to go to Old Navy. Besides coming home from the hospital, this was my first car trip. I was upset at first when they put me in the car seat but I calmed down and was a very good boy! I am going to be pretty handsome in my new big boy clothes too.

One week ago

I cannot believe it was one week ago today that I was born! Allison our midwife visited today again and I weigh 10 lbs 11 oz now. They weigh me in a sling. I hate being naked but once I am in the sling it is fun and I am happy. I have done a lot of eating in the past couple of days trying to grow big and strong for Mom & Dad. (The midwives like you to be at or past birth weight at this point). I am trying to do a lot of sleeping too. Mom likes it better when I sleep at night. I am trying my best! (Those little marks on my foot are the spots where they pricked my foot to test my glucose levels.)

Visitors

We have been having visitors come to hold me and look at me. I have been putting on my cutest face and napping peacefully. They are all so nice and generous; we are pretty lucky to have them all in our lives!

Today I met a pretty cool dude that I know is going to be one of my best friends. His name is Simon and he is my cousin. Aunt Leila, Uncle Topher and his Nana Lisa brought him to visit with me. We are going to have a lot of fun, I can tell already!

Here is a picture that Uncle in law Neil Wills made for me to celebrate my arrival.

And one more for good measure.

Ok…more pictures of me!

So I have had some requests to put more pictures of myself up. I did not want to seem conceited or anything but I am also not one to say no to the requests of all the great blog readers out there. I made last night a little bit of a challenge for Mom & Dad to keep them on their toes so they are pretty tired. Good thing Gramma is here to cook for them! I am still getting the hang of the eating, sleeping, looking cute routine but I think my parents are pretty happy I am here and that I am me!

Hello everyone!

Hello world, my name is Hawksley Shaver! (Where the heck did my parents get that name you ask? I am named after the very talented and eccentric Canadian musician Hawksley Workman and Lauchlin is a name passed down on my Mom’s side of the family).

My mom has been updating a blog for when I was in her belly but I decided to take over and manage my own. Hope you like it!

I waited until the very last day of January to make my appearance (just to drive my Mom and Dad crazy of course!). My Mom started having contractions about midnight on January 30th and I was finally born on February 1st at 5:19 a.m.
