Hawksley’s rant
Something has been happening quite a bit lately that is getting a little bit annoying! Adults keep calling me a little girl. I don’t know about you, but I think I look like a (handsome) little boy, not a (cute) little girl! So what if I have thick, long and beautiful eyelashes. So what if I have enormous brown eyes. So what if my hair is getting a little bit long in places (though I am never wearing a bow or clip in it). So what, when we go to the Early Years Centre I play with the kitchen and tea set. So what if I really like Mommy’s purse. I certainly do not wear pink clothes. In fact, most of my clothes are navy, green or brown. Mommy says there is supposed to be a rule in place where you don’t specify the sex of a baby until you know for sure in case you do guess wrong. I guess not all Mom’s and Dad’s get that memo Anyway..I look forward to when people stop making that mistake. I am a BOY!
Here is an example of my beautiful eyelashes, eyes and hair.
Here I hanging out the boys. 4 generations of us!
This is my fort behind the couch.

Dear Hawksley - You will have to talk to my baby boy, Kerry Penfound (who is now a dad himself, to 5-month old Isabel), about your problem. (Kerry is your mommy’s cousin. His wife, and Isabel’s mommy, is Persis.)
Kerry can reassure you that eventually the mistaken identity problem will go away and you will be none the worse for it. In fact, it sounds like you will benefit from all the housekeeping skills you have acquired. Real men do do housework, you know!
Anyway, when Kerry was your age, he had beautiful long, blonde hair that curled up at the ends, and a little round cherubic face, like yours. Just like you, people used to mistake him for a girl, even though we knew he was all boy — hot wheels, lego, osh gosh overalls and all.
Eventually when Kerry was old enough to understand that people were mistaking him for being a girl and it began to bother him, we had to cut his hair really short, and that seemed to do the trick.
Granna was just telling your Gramma Janet and me a story last weekend about a time when Kerry’s sister Jenny and he were little. Granna called Kerry “Merry” Kerry, because he was such a happy little fellow. Jen sternly told Granna that she shouldn’t call him “Mary” Kerry because he was a boy, not a girl.
Anyway, you are a handsome boy, Hawksley, long eyelashes, big brown eyes, dimples and all. And if anyone ever calls you sissy, just give them a whoosh with your dirt devil!!!
Love, Great Aunt HollyGram
